Key findings highlighted:
- ET-02 targets dysfunctional hair follicle stem cells, addressing the underlying cause of androgenic alopecia.
- The treatment has shown promise in restoring hair growth and normalizing hair follicle function.
Eirion Therapeutics has initiated a phase 1 study to evaluate the safety of ET-02 for treating androgenic alopecia, enrolling its first participant.
ET-02 is a topical treatment designed to restore hair growth by addressing the root cause of age-related hair loss in men.
“Preliminary studies have demonstrated ET-02's potential to restore hair growth and normalize hair follicle function, offering a novel approach to addressing the fundamental cause of androgenic alopecia,” Jon Edelson, MD, CEO and president of Eirion, noted.
Eirion believes that ET-02's unique mechanism of action positions it as a more effective treatment option compared to existing therapies.
The company also anticipates that ET-02 will not cause side effects commonly associated with hormonal treatments, such as sexual dysfunction.
The double-blind, placebo-controlled study aims to evaluate the safety of once-daily ET-02 treatment over 28 days in approximately 24 participants across three U.S. centers.
Eirion also intends to explore the potential of ET-02 in preventing hair greying, an indication that may be pursued in future studies.
